Started Reattaching Panels to Dome for Droid #1

This afternoon I got started on reattaching the panels to the dome for droid #1, after having applied a new 2K clearcoat to them. I am using 3M Very High Bond (VHB) tape to affix the panels to the dome.



I intentionally left the old tape in place on the dome, to use as a guide. The plan is to remove the old tape, one panel at a time, and apply new tape to the same area.



One panel down, many more to go.



In some cases, it makes sense to apply the tape to the back of the panel, especially when the panel is relatively small, or has a bit of an oddball shape.



Another panel down. Time for the next one...



...or maybe not. My 20-year-old roll of VHB tape is delaminating from the backing paper. This pretty much makes it impossible to continue with this roll.

Time to order some new tape. It should be here tomorrow, and I can pick up where I left off.
