Today R2 came out to support the local Arts & Learning Conservatory's production of The Empire Strikes Back - Musical Edition. This organization promotes art and learning among local youth, and they incorporated the work of playwright Rogue Schindler, who was present for the performance, into a one-hour musical. Cast members ranged in age from 8 to 15, and they've been rehearsing each weekend for a few months. This is based on the production that was done at Star Wars Celebration 3 in 2005, with a college cast and crew. I actually pulled R2-duty for both the 11:00am show and the 4:00pm show.
The characters were available for photos before and after the show, and during intermission.
A documentary crew was on hand and spoke with various characters, such as Obi-Shawn Crosby.
Between performances, some of the kids came out in costume to take pictures. My favorite was Lauren, as R2-D2.
We also came inside and took group pictures on stage before the afternoon performance.
Lauren as R2-D2, and Victoria as C-3PO.
C-3PO had gold glasses (including ribbed eyepieces) on during the performance. Don't ask me about the hair and face stuff, but she said it comes out pretty easily.
Playwright Rogue Schindler chatted with the cast before the afternoon performance.
I was very impressed with the performances, the kids and adults who made it possible clearly worked hard, and did a very good job.
The full photoset is here.
