Next I plugged R2's head full of holes, sixty-nine to be exact, underneath where the panels will go. These holes will facilitate removal of the panels in the future should I ever need to repaint them.

This weblog documents my (mis)adventures in attempting to build my own R2D2.

I like that idea and will include it into my dome.
I notice the pie panels are not cut.
Will yours not open?
And I think I'm going with the silicone on the dome panels instead of tape.
GREAT WORK!!!

You're right, I did not cut the inner dome pie panels. I don't plan to hinge the panels or put a periscope in or anything like that, so there won't be anything opening.
I think silicone will be okay, especially if you keep it local to the drilled holes. That way the panels will be easier to remove if necessary. I will have to use silicone on some of the thinner dome pieces anyway.
Thanks for the encouragement,
Victor
